Real 2026 numbers: price per roll by tier, the supplies people forget, and what a pro adds. Plus example budgets for a feature wall and a whole room.
Priced against real listings on 28 August 2026, a 12 by 9 ft feature wall takes three US bolts and costs $60 to $81 in budget paper, $165 to $270 in mid-range, and $1,122 in designer. An average 12 by 10 ft bedroom, measured wall by wall as it should be, takes eleven bolts: $221 to $297 budget, $605 to $990 mid-range, and $4,114 in designer paper. The paper is almost the whole bill, and the tier you choose swings it by a factor of roughly seventeen. Every price below is a real product at a real retailer, linked so you can check it. Wallpaper cost is mostly the paper, then a short list of supplies. Here's the per-project picture for a small feature wall of about 3 to 4 double rolls.

Most wallpaper price guides give you a range with nothing behind it. These are specific products at named retailers, with the price we read on the listing on 28 August 2026 and the per-square-foot figure worked out from the coverage the manufacturer states. Prices move, so treat these as a dated snapshot rather than a promise.

Non-woven, paste-the-wall paper is squarely DIY-friendly, which matters because labor is the big swing in the total.
Roll counts below come from our own calculator at its 10% default buffer, on a straight-match paper with a 10.5 inch repeat and 6 inches of trim at each end, with every wall entered separately. The prices are the listings in the table above. Paper only, no tools, no labour.
| Project | Rolls | Paper cost |
|---|---|---|
| Feature wall 12 × 9 ft, budget | 3 bolts | $60 – $81 |
| Feature wall 12 × 9 ft, mid-range | 3 bolts | $165 – $270 |
| Feature wall 12 × 9 ft, designer | 3 bolts | $1,122 |
| Bedroom 12 × 10 ft, 8 ft ceiling, budget | 11 bolts | $221 – $297 |
| Bedroom 12 × 10 ft, 8 ft ceiling, mid-range | 11 bolts | $605 – $990 |
| Bedroom 12 × 10 ft, 8 ft ceiling, designer | 11 bolts | $4,114 |
Three things to take from that. The tier of paper, not the size of the room, is what decides your bill: the same bedroom is $221 or $4,114 depending only on what you pick off the shelf. The roll count moves in steps rather than smoothly, because a 33 ft bolt yields three cuts right up until your cut length passes 11 ft, so on an 8 ft ceiling a repeat of up to 24 inches costs you nothing extra and a repeat past 24 inches takes that bedroom from eleven bolts to sixteen in a single jump. And measuring wall by wall rather than as one perimeter costs an extra bolt here, because a strip cannot be wrapped around an inside corner. The methodology page shows exactly where all three effects come from.

For a 12 by 10 ft bedroom with 8 ft ceilings, measured wall by wall, our calculator gives 11 US bolts. At the mid-range listings we checked in August 2026 that is $605 to $990 in paper. Budget paper brings it to about $221, and designer paper takes it past $4,100 before any labour.
A US bolt covers about 56 sq ft. Checking real listings in August 2026 we found budget rolls at $20 to $27, mid-range at $55 to $90, upper-mid at $180 to $190, and designer bolts from $374 up to $1,092 for a Schumacher paperweave. Every one of those is linked in the price table above.
Yes, and labour is usually the largest single line. Published US labour figures range from $1 to $4 per square foot at Angi up to $3 to $7 at HomeGuide, and per-roll rates of $30 to $50 and up. Non-woven paste-the-wall paper is genuinely DIY-friendly, so hanging it yourself is the biggest saving available on the job.
Designer and specialty papers, large pattern repeats that waste more, wall prep and lining, and professional installation are the main drivers.
